Today, when blackjack is considered to be one of the most popular and loved casino games all over the world, it seems that this card game always existed and did not have any difficulties at all. But the fact is that blackjack has a very rich history of its coming and development in the USA which begins in the 17th century in France.
Vingt et Un is considered to be the predecessor of modern blackjack. This game was played in France and its rules were quite similar to blackjack's ones though had some differences of course: players made bets after every round and only a dealer had a right to double. It was the period when blackjack had received its modern name and begun to be called after its best card combination - Ace and Jack of Spades.
Coming to America
Blackjack had come to America thanks to French colonists who brought it with them after French Revolution. It became popular at once and was played everywhere because no laws could be found which would prohibit this game. Gamblers of that time had understood quickly that it was possible to get profit of blackjack and began to create different strategies and techniques which would help them to win. Such a situation continued till the time the US government had prohibited gambling.
This fact did not stop blackjack, and people continued playing it illegally; the prohibition had made this game become even more popular at the beginning of the 20th century. 1931 had become a significant year for blackjack development because the government of Nevada legalized gambling and the city of Las Vegas began to grow.
Since then blackjack only increases its popularity: many people chose it as being their favorite casino game and tried to improve its rules and strategies somehow. Many books had been written about the basics of the game and ways how to beat it quickly; a lot of different blackjack card games had been created by players themselves to make the game being more interesting and varied.
